Good work, Kon Ellin. Thanks for all your amazing effort you put into these.

I like the bottom half and the Tali art is awesome. But to me personally it seems the top half could use a little refinement. I really like the Gladi patch, with its color scheme and you could tell it was a bomber from the layout. It is solid all the way around.

Perhaps replace the skull with the word "Retaliators" or a smaller picture of another Tali as if there were a formation of bombers. Just to make the two halves feel more even. I hope that makes sense.

I can't seem to find the old bomber thread, so I'm starting a new one.

This thread is for the discussion of all things bomber related during OPPF. Attack plans against the Vacon Capitals and stations (not likely cities by the time OPPF happnes), bomber squadron composition types, armaments and upgrades that will likely be helpful, that sort of thing.


Due to ssthehunter's extended absence, I've been given custodianship of the previous bomber thread, and am moving the important parts here, here's a link to the old, locked thread.  https://operationpitchfork.com/forums/index.php?topic=171.0;all I'll try to keep this thread up to date.

As to the original topic, perhaps we should organize this into heavy bombers and strike bombers, Retaliators and Gladiators, and perhaps a mixed group.

Not a bad idea.  Tali's who need crew and Gladys who want human gunners.  I imagine we'll get a bit more traffic when these ships drop into the DFM.

I think finding human gunners will be more difficult since (according to our google doc) our number of vessels greatly outnumbers our number of actual players involved. Unless the human crew were rescued from a ship than I am guessing we will have to use npc gunners

That does seem to be a common... "problem", but we could likely find gunners amongst the people who don't want to risk their ship on a "suicide mission"

Well, while I have currently 6 ships in my hangar (probably more on P-Day, lol), I expect to run through them faster than the insurance company can replace them.
When that happens, I´ll be up for grabs :)

As for who will escort the bombers I think since I believe gladiators will be carrier based the gladiator should be alongside hornets (majority of the hornets being standard, some of the trackers for the radar, and super hornets).


For retaliators, since they are large and seem to have enough turrets to defend themselves, either they can go through packs of other retaliators.
Or  two alternatvives for the retaliator bombers:

1. have a light escort of Aurora LNs/325a fighters.

2. Convoy of Connies and Caterpillars/Gunship through TNGS. With the Connies providing further anti-fighter capabilities with the snub fighters. And with the Caterpillars already in formation with the bombers, once the Capital ships are disabled/damaged enough to board, the Caterpillars and Gunships will be able to board the ships.

I think the Connie/Gunships would be the best idea because they can also do SEAD, though fighters could also do it if they can avoid the AA fire long enough. And it would definitely be a good idea to work alongside the boarding parties since we have a universal key to stubborn, closed hangar doors.

The long range deep space twin engine fighter would probably be very good for escorting a retaliator or pack deep into Vanduul turf, and it looks like the bombers are finally almost finished;.

holding a retaliator I'm planning on refitting mil-spec for this op in particular, but yeah, gunnery posts seem to be the most difficult to fill.

(as I also have a few other multi-crew ships, Redeemer, Reclaimer, super hornet etc)

as far as my goes though, I'm happy to help people out and park my ships if it means that people can fill up their crew compliment for their bombing runs.
I know now with certainty who I am, but I'll be damned if I'll ever know the point.

Was thinking about bomber tactics on my way in to work today, and I had thought about how slow the 'Tali is. Yes she is a bomber and not supposed to be fighter nimble, but I was thinking that if her weapons can lock far enough out she might be able to do her approach in cruise mode to give her some extra speed to avoid fighters as well as for her escape so she wouldn't need to build velocity again. The down side is that her maneuvering will turn to crap so she couldn't avoid incoming defensive fire or debris as easily, but I think being able to do a blitz strike and get out fast would be more important. Of course, this is assuming tht you'd have time to lock and deploy torpedoes.

Good thought,but I've been told maximum lock range is 2500 meters which is not far. Hoping it increases with torpedoes at least as the game develops.

2nd option would be if you can dumb fire torps, but that seems unlikely.

This should actually work naturally with those ship's respective speeds. Btw Harbinger numbers are very low. It's about 50,meanwhile we have over 200 Gladiators and 600 Retaliators. So it's kind of like a wave of Gladiators with Harbingers mixed in followed by a full wave of Retaliators provided the instancing is perfect.

Because I have nothing better to do during my commute than thinking up bomber strategy: If Recon can isolate a 'Duul destroyer we could send out a Recon in Force team of 1 Tali, 4 Gladiators, and 8 fighters to go in and see what is needed to kill it. That will give us a basic understand on how tough their ships may/may not be, but also give our bombers crews some live fire practice on the enemy before we light the fuse.
