I like it, however, I think it needs to be a little more direct in what we're asking of the UEE, namely some military support to go along with our operation.

"an official call for volunteers in the Navy's ranks."

Best way  I could think off... but I'm sure there's best ways.

Most changes that I am suggesting will be in bold font. Some sections have been entirely re-written, and are in no special font.

Earth - Sol System
Imperial Senate Hall
Honorable High-Secretary Sharrad

Mr. High-Secretary,

We send you this letter today in order to ask the United Empire of Earth for both its endorsement and support of for what has been become widely become known as "Operation Pitchfork". "Operation Pitchfork." We, the men and women who have gathered to its banner assembled in common cause, request you present this letter and its contents to the Senate for its consideration. While we wish you will grant us this courtesy, know that we are adamant on our resolve. "Operation Pitchfork" will come to be, with or without Imperial approval.

It is not as beggars that we come to you, but as loyal sons and daughters of humanity. We will not ask the Empire to hold our hands. However, while our task is great while our resources are limited. The United Empire of Earth, in its role as both home of and protector to humanityto all of us, could advance our efforts by leaps and bounds. What we strive for months to accomplish in months, the Senate could manage in a day's session. From for-going temporarily waiving docking fees to directly subsidizing fuel and armaments subventions for our operations, with minimal effort and expenditure the Empire could greatly improve our likelihood of success.

However, we ask for more than economic support.

We humbly request preferred jump-point transit rights, and permission to travel through UEE space for our pilots and supporters. Additionally, we request access to military intelligence in the Orion and Tiber sectors. We further issue an open call for volunteers from the Navy's ranks. There are a myriad of ways in which Imperial aid for our cause could help save lives, and help defeat our common Vanduul enemies.

The perils we face are plentiful. Fresh in our minds is the suffering inflicted upon Imperial citizens by the Vanduul. In full recognition of the threats we face, we will still march into the darkness and stare down the Vanduul menace. We will demonstrate to the Vanduul that Humanity will resist their predations, with every gun and every ship that we can bring to bear against them.

We shall not falter, though we fly in unknown and uncharted space against a deadly foe. What we will accomplish has never been done before. The Vanduul do not expect us, they have not prepared for us, and they cannot withstand us. We shall bring the battle to them, and where they are strongest, we will prove - once and for all - that humanity will not be hunted. That humanity will fight back. That humanity will prevail.

Know that this rally is not - and will not - be tainted by personal or corporate interests. What we aim to accomplish is not meant to enrich or glorify anyone. We act because no one else has, and we fight so that no one else has to. Whatever the result of this endeavor, the men and women who have joined together for this righteous cause have only one thing in their minds: The future and well-being of the entire human race.

However, while we wish you will grant us your favor, know that we are adamant in our resolve. "Operation Pitchfork" will come to be, with or without Imperial sanction.

Far too long has humanity Humanity has endured the Vanduul onslaught for far too long. Those wretched leeches have engorged themselves on the lives of our innocent and brave for far too long.

They will no longer be tolerated.

I could do it in Auto CAD but depending on how they want to use it it may violate my terms of use. If they just use the image to make their own, which I doubt as they could've used the one you sent, then it would be fine. On the other hand if they want to use the file directly it won't work.

wow, that seems ridiculously priced considering a simple seal can seriously be made out of a potato.

Yeah, I think that getting someone that is good with handcraft is much, much more simpler and cheaper. If it had been 20-50, sure. But 300? A bit too much.

If you look at the item list you'll see that the prices are for 50, 100, and 250 seals respectively and include the fee to make the die. Basically the price boils down to $1.85, $1.22, or $1.12 per seal.

If all we want is a single seal I can make a foam-core die and get some candle wax, should be simple an cost about $10.

Well, that won't work. I just did a test plot to make sure the image looked alright at that scale and the lines are so close it's hard to distinguish that there's multiple lines. I don't think I could get anything carved that fine, let alone foam-core.

It's a minor change, but I think it reads significantly better. I can't decide whether or not changing the preceding "in" to "for" would sound better.

Presumably those are minimum order allotments and as for the $100 die cost it's not like seals are something that people make on a regular basis. They tend to be a one off purchase.

Just some points I thought I'd being up:

One thing we might ask for is if we indeed intend to retake Orion permanently: Marine advisers or perhaps point out the possibility that we will might even open a hole for a Marine Expeditionary Force to retake the colonies or any large Vanduul assets in the system (risk/benefit based on their own analysts of course). We are citizens after all. Not planetary invasion specialists.

We could say we recognize the UEE has many commitments regarding the Navy, and that we recognize that it would be unwise for the military to spread itself too thin by deploying a full carrier group to our cause. We simply ask that any military volunteers be given leave and allow them and their issued gear to join us (Although perhaps a few volunteer destroyers would be nice).

Could point out that this could represent a significant opportunity to gather intel on the Vanduul. Taking back Orion would push back the buffer zone away from Earth as well.

We are not asking for licensed vigilantism, but for any available support to preemptively defend our homes, our families rather than wait timidly in fear for the Vanduul to come end our lives and those of our loved ones.

Just some thoughts to throw out there.

We do have to be careful about the extent of assistance we ask for. Asking for too much assistance my result in the UEE claiming the victory for themselves and attempting to lay claim to the system(s) as UEE territory, something I'm sure there are many anti-UEE in OP that would be opposed to this. If we do manage to liberate and hold Orion it is my opinion that it should be held and run by the player base, NOT the UEE. Pushing back the Vanduul control line farther from Earth should be reward enough for the UEE.

Re: Open OPPF Letter to the UEE

Being pro-UEE, I would of course disagree.
However, I considering it my personal goal within Operation Pitchfork that we re-take Orion and start re-building it. So having full UEE assistance would be great.

Not to mention that if we are to start working on keeping Orion, we are going to need a more permanent military presence then what a rag-tag militia fleet can provide.

That being said, I do understand why someone would want to make Orion into a colony-state (New term, YAY) that is mainly player controlled. Would probably end up being quite the lawless place run by syndicates.
Considering that this is a player started and driven initiative, I understand that and approve of it.
But how are we going to try and claim that place for any period of time if we don't have the firepower to protect it?

Of course, if we break the Vanduul hard enough in the Grinder, they might leave us alone, so there is that.

It may end up being lawless in the sense that the UEE isn't holding it to it's particular law, however, I do think that there will be a significant permanent presence of OP folks who remain there and that those folks UEE or pirate will continue to be civil to each other keeping relative peace as a whole. Those who try and pirate the pitchfork are likely to get forked. At least that's my optimistic vision of what will happen :)

All good points. I like how much progress we're making on evolving this idea.

There is a motion I would like to be put to consideration. And that is to hold off on sending the Main Group Letter (need a better title for this thing...) to the UEE until a specific date.

Additionally, an idea has been put forth for us to start sending letters to CIG RPing as citizens sending letters to the UEE asking for help against the Vanduul, which would ultimately culminate in the Main Group Letter being sent all fancy like. I like this idea, and it supports another reason to set a date for sending the MGL.

I'm proposing we hold off sending it until after the American Holiday Season. So in January. That way it doesn't get lost in the rush of stuff I'm sure people will be sending CIG in the Holiday Season, gives us time to send in the "Citizen Letters" and it gives us lots of time to fine tune the main letter itself.

Let me know what you think, and if you support this idea of postponing the letter until a specific date.

Yeah, that's my hope as well. I'm hoping enough of the Pitchfork community hangs out after OPPF that we can pull that off, and for once have a player-run system in a (sorta) MMO that doesn't devolve into murder, rape and plunder.

I agree with holding off on the letter to the UEE, I was actually thinking wait till the full alpha/beta. We'll have a better idea about what we need and what we have by then as well as a better idea of what we need to do.

I think with as much force as we're going to be going into Orion with that there will be a large number of people who maintain a hangar there and make regular runs there. I know I will be.

Preliminary letters sounds like a good idea to me. Setting the stage, if you will. So I agree on postponing the sending of the main letter.

On a secondary note. The 18th Fleet is on Chronos doing nothing... only two jumps away from Vanduul space... Where we to focus on the grinder first, it'd be a great help to not have to worry about Virgil and Vendetta while we are at it...

We'd be soaking up the brunt of the Vanduul fleet while allowing UEE to advance with little opposition... hopefully linking up with us on Tiber.

Just a thought.

I for one do plan on making Orion my hanger home as well. I've got to be close to my bar there, after all!

There's already been a lot of talk about the strategic plans elsewhere, Deathcall. That's not the subject here.

I'm talking about specifically requesting help from the 18th fleet on the letter. While related to strategy, it's something we need to do "in-lore" and so I thought it was a good idea to bring it up here.

After all, isn't out intention with this letter to get help from the UEE? What better than pointing out that elite force just sitting idly by the Synthworld (that nobody seems to care about anyway)?

But well, my bad I suppose.

All good points. One of the reasons I threw out some random options regarding UEE support is more about image rather than getting official military support. This way we don't look like a bunch of malcontent and rouge vigilantes but rather acting as concerned people from all walks of life united in acting in the interest of humanity.

One good way of appearing to be on the same side is to politely request something reasonable you know the other side will regretfully and respectfully decline. The last impression we want to give is that of giving the UEE the finger when we tell them we're going this with or without them. This way we don't raise suspicion that we are trying to assemble a fleet to branch off from the UEE and have the Navy show up to "restrain" us from our "foolhardy endeavor."

Re: Open OPPF Letter to the UEE

One of the problems in asking for specific things is that.. Well.. We have to know what we are doing ourselves.
On a strategic level, we got a few people that wants Garron and Nul as mustering points and the idea of pushing through the grinder to show the Vanduul our power. That is not the final strategy nor even what everyone can agree on.

As for the matter of sending letter as citizen: Well, I kinda already did that. Sent it last Thursday/Friday. I was going to send a small package of goodies to CIG and I thought it would be funny to send in a letter as a UEE citizen. Then Ben took the idea and ran with it as an open letter to. Hopefully we might see something in the coming Wingman's Hangar, but I was kinda hoping it would come as a surprise. Seeing the discussion is going in that direction, figured I'd tell you guys.

In my opinion, citizen letters should be personal. For all the flaws and merit that has.
Unlike the open letter that is being drafted, the personal ones should have flaws and either a formal or informal tone depending on personal preference. So I don't think people should feel the need to post them here or have people make draft for them in the first place since it will lose the personal touch.
