Open OPPF Letter to the UEE
As a loose organization of disparate people from across the 'verse coming together to fight the Vanduul, from the lore perspective, there have been some members who want to reach out to the UEE for support.

While not everyone might welcome that, *coughpiratescough*, we should make the attempt to get aid from anyone willing to give us any. Even if it is from a government. So, with it in mind not everyone will be flying on the UEE's good side, we should gather people together to help craft an open letter to the UEE in an attempt to cash in on some of their help for this shadowy and loosely tied together organization.

So, bring your best writers hat, and let's get this going.

One of the things that might be nice to ask for is temporary pardon for the lawless elements of our fleet within UEE territories around Vanduul space. Especially if Garron becomes out main mustering point.

While there might be a few individuals who abuses this, the fact that we can fly in syndicate organizations without much trouble would greatly outweigh the risk regarding our operation. UEE might see things different tho.

Well, anyone that abuses it would probably promptly lose it. And then die when we all think that person is a Dent.

I agree with this idea but I'm no writer. I will support this motion when someone writes it.

I'd be willing to give it a shot, I think, would this be an official letter from OpPF as a whole, or from an individual element? A formal request for support/aid or a more informal style?

I think this should be from Pitchfork as a whole and as such should be considered a formal request.
Probably should drag Sailor into this.

That is my point of view, for what it is worth.

Thank you for seeing my side of this idea you started.

I would agree with this being a formal letter we should make sure to have two letter's that we send.

  • Letter to the CIG team.

  • Letter to the UEE Military (Some place that would be the logical department for this operation to get support from)

Now after knowing that we are sending a letter it would be good to know for the RP side of a letter we are requesting aid and support this is a picture from the Writer's Guide section on the RSI page.

I would think Congress or the High Secretary would be more appropriate as the recipients for a letter than the UEE military. While the military may have a PR office, it likely would not set policy, which we would be asking for (specifically, a policy of either active support or passive non-intervention against us), representing both citizens and non-citizens.

Regardless of where the letter is addressed though, I think it would be the Imperator's final decision. Especially considering the potential ramifications of provoking the Vanduul

Yes Good Point, well even though this stuff isn't set in stone it's still the current lore for any one planning to write anything https://robertsspaceindustries.com/comm-link/transmission/12946-t

Sounds good. The if we do get a temporal pardon for all the pirates and rogues out there who participate in our OP that'd be a great advantage. Even if we don't get any ships or NPC pilots the pardon alone would be worth it. Good thinking guys, keep up the good work!

Ps. I'm terrible at anything formal, but if we need to give a plural and free form speech at any time for anyone I'm in.

Here are some things to help.

This can be used as a guideline on how to format the letter.

This could be used as a basis to ask for temporal pardons

This is a major battle that happened in the Idris system. I dont know maybe we can liken our operation for this generation's Idris IV, the battle that changed the fate of humanity.

Me, Lyt_Speed and Shobab pretty much agreed that this letter should be to the High-Secretary.
A letter directly to the Imperator is sending the letter a bit to high in the system.
Plus, the High-Secretary has the ability to address our cause for the Senate if need be.

Even failing the Senate, the High-Secretary has the ears of the Imperator, which means that even if the Senate can't agree on UEE's official stance towards Operation Pitchfork, the highest seat in the government might be able to offer us some unofficial support or official support despite not having the Senates backing.

Of course this can horrible backfire, as we might be publicly denounced, but if the Intelligence failed to pick up on the Forker Fleet's mustering, movements and goals, then UEE's 3 letter agencies really need to step up their game. So I am going out from the assumption that UEE knows about Operation Pitchfork, but haven't taken an official stance on the militia fleet yet.

I agree with sending it to the High Secretary. In addition to it being to a person in power it would sent to a SINGLE person. If we were to send it to Congress then they could always attempt to feign ignorance. "It wasn't sent to me."

In the letter we need to ask for specific actions to be made rather than a general "Help us please." This tells them what we're looking for and allows them to take specific actions rather than it being debated in the congress forever and a day before anything happens.

This will be to help write a group letter to the UEE. I want people to know they can totally write their own in-game-letters to the UEE, since we're basically an unorganized mob that will all be flying in the same direction once the call goes out. No one would be around to stop you.

Out of game, we don't want to flood CIG with too much stuff, but I think it's totally ok to send them OPPF letters anyways. We've got a lot creative people here.

I'll draft up something with the intent for it to be the closest thing to an 'official' letter from Operation Pitchfork. Yes, technically we're an disorganized mob collaborating on action, but as with reality, ICly there'd be the major leaders/organisation whom would be pointing a rough direction for people to go. Even in a democracy you need leaders to maintain cohesion after all.

Even if the orders are as simple as 'go here, give em hell, and meet us at Orion afterwards'

Hi

I am on board with and open letter and specified above, with one modification, we should courtesy copy the fictional personalities from the spectrum dispatches such as  Sabine Murillo from Merc.net Craig Burton from Clean Shot,  Aaron Frost of New United NewsOrg, ERIA QUINT Showdown etc.

This will give CIG and opportunity to write us into the lore of the game now, the various "news" personalities can give their opinions of OP in universe pro and con. CR was wanting us to create content, so why not start now  and if CIG does respond in universe this will give us more credibility and one more step to making Pitchfork the largest player driven event ever

Pitchfork Belongs to all of us

I'm happy you knew about those people, because I didn't. That's perfect. It's just what an unsanctioned mob would do. Send it to the news people as well as the government.

I think we should structure the letter like this.

[Salutations]

[Opening body. We inform the reader what we are planning, and that OPPF will happen regardless of the level of support or lack therefor of by the UEE. End opening body leading into next portion by stating that though it will happen, we would welcome aid or support from the UEE]

[Main body. We state what we would like from the UEE. Be it supplies, temporary pardons, or actual fire support.]

[Secondary Main Body. We play to the readers interest. Like how a simultaneous military advance into Tiber during or after a massive attack by OPPF could finally be what they need to tip the balance in the Grinder. The event is going to happen. They should not let it pass without attempting to use it somehow to their advantage. We can make other points like these]

[Closing. This targets the secondary audience, the Citizens, in an effort to make them put pressure on their government to support us. We play up the magnitude of this venture, the heroics that will no doubt come from it, and put pressure on the UEE that we may actually accomplish what they have not. They definitely don't want to see us achieve this without them to be around to claim some credit.]

Here's there google doc link:

EDIT: I guess it's more or less done. Inserting full copy below.

[DATE HERE]
Earth - Sol System
Imperial Senate Hall
Honorable High-Secretary Sharrad

Mr. High-Secretary,

We send you this letter today in order to ask the United Empire of Earth for both endorsement and support of what has been widely become known as "Operation Pitchfork". We, the men and women who have gathered to its banner, request you present this letter and its contents to the Senate for its consideration. While we wish you will grant us this courtesy, know that we are adamant on our resolve. "Operation Pitchfork" will come to be, with or without Imperial approval.

It is not as beggars that we come to you, but as sons and daughters. We will not ask the Empire to hold our hands, however, our task is great while our resources limited. The United Empire of Earth, in its role as both home and father to all of us, could advance our efforts by leaps and bounds. What we strive for months to accomplish, the Senate could manage in a day's session. From for-going docking fees to fuel and armament subventions.

Nonetheless, economy is not our only concern.

Preferred jump-point and transit rights through UEE space for all our pilots and supporters, access to military intelligence in the Orion and Tiber sectors, an official call for volunteers in the Navy's ranks. There are a myriad of ways in which to aid our cause and save as many lives as possible.

Plentiful, are the perils. Fresh in our minds, the suffering and deaths. Falter, we shall not. We fly in uncharted space, what we will do, has never been done before. They do not expect it, they have not prepared for it, they cannot prevent it. We shall bring the battle to them, and there, where they are strongest, we will prove - once and for all - that humanity cannot be pushed around. That humanity will fight back. That humanity will not break.

Know that this rally is not - and shall not - be tainted by personal or corporate interests. What we aim to accomplish is not meant to enrich or glorify anyone. We act because nobody else will, and we fight so nobody else has to. Whatever the result of this dire endeavor, the men and women who have joined together for this righteous cause have only one thing in their minds: The future and well-being of the entire human race.

Far too long has humanity endured the Vanduul onslaught. Far too long has humanity let those wretched leeches engorge themselves with the lives of our innocent and brave. Far too long.

No further.

I like it, however, I think it needs to be a little more direct in what we're asking of the UEE, namely some military support to go along with our operation.
