Jump Point Discovery

Once a Jump Point is discovered we should have a full expedition team set up to handle what might be found on the other side.

I'm opening this threat to discuss tactics and strategies, pros and cons of fleet invasion of a new system.

What do ya think?

While we don't have the details yet. But word is that there will be some kind of detectable flash when a ship jumps into a system. So a  single will have less of a signature.  An alternative would a few fighters and a ghost. The fighters go off one way emitting as much as possible and the ghost goes in another scouting the area unnoticed.

First off we'll need some exploration ships to go in so that they can actually successfully navigate the jump point and get the nav data fed to the rest of the fleet.

After that I'd recommend a decent size fleet go through in order to handle any patrol that might be passing by.

I'm going to move this conversation to the Not Operation Pitchfork Board, since it's not likely to get much traffic here on the Get to know your fellow Forkers board.

I am under the impression that jump points will be rare and difficult to find. In other words, we aren't likely to find them during the actual operation.

If we find them, it'll have to be during the pre-operation activities.

Bigger the fleet, easier it is to detect. Hence if we're scouting Vanduul space I'd rather use small scout fleet first and when scouting is done and targets located only after that have the full invasion fleet launched!

As I understand it, just because you plot a possible course through the jump point doesn't mean it's the correct one. So if my understanding is right, the more ships the better.

Plus once you get there, you have to plot a correct return course. Which again, isn't a guaranteed correct course. Which is where ships like the (Surveyor?) come in handy, automatically plotting a safe return course for a jump.
