I had typed up a 50k character message to Hike early on something completely different to only have it lost when the monitor powered off....
I like JackDaniels' proposal. Nicely covers all the different discussion types likely to happen.
Please don't call the scouting board "Inquisition" or anything along those lines. While the word may literally be derived from inquire, it almost always refers to a religious (or at least quasi-religious) organisation operating along the lines of a secret police, or an internal investigation group, or an outside-the-law special task force. I've always liked the term, "reconnaissance". We chop it down to, "recon" in common speech and no-one gets the wrong idea about the members inside it.If I may go even further, I have some suggestions for some layout tweaks that are just slightly different than yours, JackDaniels.I see a couple of forums that don't seem to be needed. I'd lose the "Not Operation Pitchfork" and "Lone Wolves and Independents" forums. All that really seems to be going on in the first is LTI related. I'd feel safe mixing this into a single general discussion forum that is currently "Operation Pitchfork". It's like there is an off-topic, but on-SC forum, then an off-topic, off-SC forum. I think it's just too much personally. At this stage, if its about SC, it's probably relevant to all of us. As for "Lone Wolves", after 41 views and not a single post aside from the rules, I think it's clear that people aren't really sure why it's there. I feel strongly that well-named sub-forums specific to different roles will draw Lone Wolves into groups organically. I'm digging the idea of child boards to help group discussion as well as drive newcomers to their areas of interest. In light of that, I'd like to see a layout like this:Pitchfork - Command Room (A new forum category, split off from the hellos and the general discussion.) The War Room (C&C, Admirals & Big Picture Discussions)Reconnaissance (Scouting, Intelligence & Observation)Boarding Operations (Breaching Hulls & Stealing Bacon-Powered Ships)Bombardment (Bombers & Escorts)Top Gun (Dogfighting & Interdiction)After-Action (SAR & Salvage)Xeriar, I'd like to point out I've omitted a "Loadout" sub-forum from my suggestion on purpose. I think any post about ship selection and loadout would be extremely specific to each role, and therefore naturally at home in their respective sub-forums.Please criticize, adopt or shoot down as you see fit.
I don't see a problem with it, though I would suggest, rather strongly, that there be an intel section separate from the recon section. I say this because if someone is uninterested in recon they are unlikely to find it, and if they do may not feel comfortable posting if they think it's only for scouts. We need to be getting as much information as possible about the Vanduul ships and systems, if some guy in a hornet finds a way to take out a Scythe there needs to be a place they will know to post it so the rest of us, and as a result the OP as a whole, can benefit from it.
Pitchfork - Command Room (A new forum category, split off from the hellos and the general discussion.) The War Room (C&C, Admirals & Big Picture Discussions)Reconnaissance (Scouting, Intelligence & Observation)Boarding Operations (Breaching Hulls & Stealing Bacon-Powered Ships)Bombardment (Bombers & Escorts)Top Gun (Dogfighting & Interdiction)After-Action (SAR & Salvage)
Command Room (General board for general Command room talk)-Division Discussions (Discussions for Roles like Recon, Scout, or Medic, SAR, etc. etc.)--(To talk about what could be planned out for each role and different ways of covering them.)-Coordination Planning (Proposals and fleet plans with suggested assignment area's)--Organizations pick a location and sign up for what proposals they like and what sections of that proposal they are going to be apart of and if not the location they will be supporting from.-Intel (Location to find info on enemy ship, forces, and other gathered resources in lore or in-game)--General intel in similar relation to the Wiki, but mostly including the findings and some helpful info that may have been overlooked for the Wiki or vital to planning of the Operation Proposals -Loadouts (Suggested Kit configurations for players deciding a role to play out... with notes on weapon tweaking and overclocking)--Mostly think of it like the Armory, Quartermaster, and what ever have you for info that can be found for suggestions to other pilots on what could be a decent build as a quick summary for those that talked about it in another board about perfect ship configurations or tweaks. Could even double for Boarding action kit informatiom.
SAR isn't after-action. Can't leave a player floating in space for an hour. I'd suggest putting it in a Support division that includes the supply chain (making sure we have enough missiles and supplies for repairs) as well as the repair and rearm crews.
I don't mean to knit pick here but you do realize that we still have a year for all this and I can re-arrange the boards later to better suite what is available in the game as far as mechanics go?
Sorry JD, we are just so excited You are right to take a forum make-over slow at this point. Too many boards with too few posts can lead to a dead forum right quick.
Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!
