Pitchfork and ship roles for the battle
We've done a lot of theory crafting for recon, supply, and other aspect of the upcoming battle, but one thing I've noticed is that we haven't set particular needs or roles for certain ship classes. I'm working up a rough list right now of roles and missions best suited for that certain type of ship as we would need to get them organized into flights, squadrons and battle formations in order to make a semi-cohesive fighting force.

Starting from the largest and working down:

Retaliator: anti-capship, picket vessel
Caterpillar: Cargo, fuel, boarding vessel, resupply, SAR
Constellation: picket vessel, fighter suppression, missile boat, light troop ferry, cargo, SAR
Redeemer: Boarding vessel, support gunship, fighter suppression, SAR
Freelancer: Fighter suppression, light troop ferry, Missile boat (MIS), Recon (DUR), cargo (MAX), SAR
Cutlass: Fighter suppression, light cargo, SAR, medical ferry, salvage

Good to know--once cashflows allow, I'm planning to pledge on a Connie (not sure if Andromeda or Aquila), have an Aurora LX I won in Twerk's drawing if CIG ever manages to transfer it to my hangar, and thinking about maybe a 315p if it won't bust my hard $350 initial budget limit. Would really LIKE a Carrack, Glad or F7C-M, but more likely I'll snag those ingame later.
Anyone got a Con Andromeda Physical Goodies package you're thinking about melting for a Digital? Send me a note--maybe we can make a deal.

Command ship: Used for theater level organization of the battle space. Command ships would have crew members dedicated to organizing and tasking assets to the needs within the combat area as well as directing resupply vessels to the proper staging areas.

anti-capship: Provide heavy weapons fire to take out large enemy vessels.

medical vessel: Emergency medical services to wounded pilots, crew members and marines. Primary duty is to stabilize the wounded for potential transport to a hospital vessel.

resupply point: Provide fuel and munitions to combat vessels along with potential replacement crew members for multi-crew ships

Marine Staging area: Provide an area where boarding parties can armor up, check weapons and board any troop ferries for combat operations.

Picket vessel: Provide a sensor screen to be linked with the command vessel to extend battle space awareness.

light carrier: Be able to bring a small number of fighters into the battle space as well as recovery of fighter craft for resupply or light repair.

light anti-capship: While not able to take down larger vessels on its own, this ship would be able to harass larger capital ships with its speed and flanking maneuvers. Not recommended for it to go toe to toe with a ship of the line on its own.

First Strike bomber: primary mission is to strike enemy capital ships ahead of the main strike force for harassment raids, or as part of the primary attack plan.

fighter screen: Provide light artillery against enemy fighter size vessels in order to protect both large ship assets and lightly armed supply assets.

Salvage vessel: break down enemy and friendly vessels for usable resources.

Repair vessel: Fix damaged vessels in order to get them quickly back into the fight.

dry dock: Repair services for large vessels that may have massive damage or be unable to get underway under their own power.

Hospital: Medical support for participants after they have been stabilized by medical ships. Also provides services for any cybernetic limbs that would replace damage ones.

Weapon research: analyze and reverse engineer Vanduul tech in order to learn weaknesses.

Long Range Sensor: Provide a 'eyes in the sky' platform to peak a look into the enemy territory before sending scout units out.

fuel ship: Provide Hydrogen, Helium-3, and anti-matter for ship reactors.

Troop transport: Bring combat troops to the forward staging areas en mass.

SWACS: Long range sensor input for fighters and command vessels. Jamming and counter jamming for combat operations.

Cargo: bring in required ammunition, medical supplies, replacement parts and provisions to staging areas.

heavy cargo: Haul large scale equipment for repair ships, or increased volume of required material goods.

Ultra heavy Cargo: able to bring in enough supplies for an entire fleet.

Ship Ferry: Able to bring in ships with whole or in pieces.

Q-Ship: Heavy cargo vessel loaded with Parasite fighters in cargo modules.

Recon vessel: Provide early level intel on enemy areas as part of preparation for the invasion.

Jump Scout: Locate and plot jump points in enemy systems.

path finder: Fly ahead of the fleet in order to plot the best path to take for the attack.

SAR: Locate and rescue injured pilots, crew members and Marines.

boarding vessel: Latch on to enemy vessels into order to cut through the hull, or land in existing landing bays and deploy Marines for combat operations.

fighter suppression: Focus primarily on dealing with enemy fighters, either as an escort fighter or as part of a fighter screen with a larger vessel.

missile boat: Focus primarily on delivering as many missiles to enemy forces with the maximum destruction possible.

light troop ferry: Carry squads of Marines to ships already under siege.

support gunship: Remain on station to provide fire support to Marine forces against enemy troops or fighter forces.

medical ferry: Move wounded personnel to medical facilities while EMT staff stabilize the wounded. Provide transport for patients to hospitals for additional medical needs.

Heavy fighter: Provide heavy fire for anti-fighter and anti-capital ship needs.

Interceptor: Intercept enemy fighters and bombers before they can get within range of capital ships and staging areas.

fast recon: Scout enemy positions for invasion intel with the intention of out running any enemy interceptors.

Electronic warfare: Provide jamming, counter jamming, as well as attempt to hack enemy com channels and computer systems.

stealth recon: Scout enemy position before the invasion with the intent of not being detected.

courier: Carry data between ships/fleets that is too sensitive to be broadcast.

squadron command: Act as a squadron level commander for command ships to relay orders through to pilots.

point defense: Last line of defense against enemy fighters, to be used if enemies break through fighter screen and are overwhelming the fighter suppression teams.

That's a very nice breakdown of all the different possible jobs. But know that with the right modifications/pilot, you can operate outside of your ship's designed purpose.

But still, good job!

I didn't include options for the Olympic or super-collider versions as I couldn't come up with anything fitting.

Stats might change, but for now the Constellation might be better for taking out larger bombers?

Added the Dragonfly, put her into the SAR role as she could be sortied out to pick up pilots. Also have her listed as 'Last ditch defense' because if you are down to using the Dragonfly you are pretty much screwed.

I think under the missile boat label the Connie would be well suited as a bomber killer, along with those 4 big nacelle mounts. Put a couple high energy lasers or kinetic mass drivers there and I think they'd rip right through bombers.

What your describing for the Connie as a "Bomber Destroyer" is part of the definition of a Heavy Fighter as they carry heavier armament for that purpose. Perhaps add this classification.

Heavy Fighter-"Conceived as long-range escort fighters, or heavily armed bomber destroyers, heavy fighters largely failed in their intended roles during World War II, as they could not outmaneuver the more conventional, single-engined fighters. Many twin-engined heavy fighters eventually found their niche as night fighters, with considerable successes."(All of space is black so...yea maby.)
